Playoffs
Generate playoff brackets from final league standings to determine your champion.
Overview
Playoffs are an optional elimination bracket that follows the regular season. Top teams from the standings compete in a tournament to determine the ultimate league champion.
Why playoffs? Regular season standings crown the most consistent team. Playoffs add excitement and give top teams a final showdown.
When to Use Playoffs
Playoffs work well when:
- You want a dramatic conclusion to the season
- Multiple teams are close in standings
- You want a clear "champion" beyond just regular season winner
- Teams need closure with head-to-head elimination matches
Note
Setting Up Playoffs
- 1Complete Regular Season
All matchweek results must be finalized before playoffs can begin.
- 2Choose Number of Teams
Select how many teams qualify (4, 6, 8, etc.). Top teams from standings are auto-seeded.
- 3Select Format
Single elimination, double elimination, or best-of series for each round.
- 4Generate Bracket
Click "Generate Playoff Bracket" to create the elimination bracket.
Playoff Seeding
Teams are seeded based on their final regular season standings:
Example 8-team playoff bracket:
Round 1: #1 vs #8
Round 1: #4 vs #5
Round 1: #2 vs #7
Round 1: #3 vs #6
Higher seeds get favorable matchups against lower seeds. This rewards regular season performance.
Playoff Formats
Single Elimination
One loss and you're out. Fast and exciting, but less forgiving.
Double Elimination
Teams get a second chance through the losers bracket. More competitive and fair.
Best-of Series
Configure different match formats per round (e.g., Bo1 early rounds, Bo3 semis, Bo5 finals).
Common Playoff Configurations
| Teams | Format | Rounds |
|---|---|---|
| 4 teams | Single Elim | Semis → Finals |
| 6 teams | Top 2 get bye | Quarters → Semis → Finals |
| 8 teams | Single Elim | Quarters → Semis → Finals |
| 8 teams | Double Elim | Winners/Losers brackets → Grand Finals |
Running Playoff Matches
Playoff matches work the same as tournament matches:
- Schedule each round with specific dates/times
- Report results after each match
- Winners advance automatically in the bracket
- Continue until a champion is crowned
Tip
Playoff Results
When playoffs conclude:
- Champion is crowned and displayed on league page
- Final standings include both regular season and playoff placements
- Results are preserved in league history
- Teams and players can display playoff achievements on profiles
Leagues Without Playoffs
If you prefer not to run playoffs:
- Simply complete the regular season
- The team at the top of standings is your champion
- Mark the season as complete
- Move on to the next season when ready
This approach rewards consistency over the entire season rather than peak performance at the end.
